POWERS
PHASING Kitty naturally interacts with matter in a way that allows her to pass through it, by effectively moving the atoms that make up her own body between the atoms making up any surface. Kitty is naturally intangible, and it requires some willpower to maintain a normal relationship with nature. It's second nature at this point, so unless she's in deep sleep, unconscious, or otherwise significantly weakened, Kitty remains solid.

While intangible, Kitty can move through any surface or item. Kitty can selectively phase parts of her body, and through physical contact, she can phase other people and objects alongside her. More people or objects means more exertion, but she's successfully phased the Blackbird with the team in it before. While phased, she can still be affected by some force or magical attacks, and can experience pain when phasing through particularly dense material.
  • By passing through electronic equipment while phased, Kitty can interrupt and destroy it. She can reach through solid surfaces while phased and interact with a solid portion of her body, i.e. stealing items out of safes, punching through doors. She could technically reach into the human body and take out organs. But she doesn't do that.
  • While phased, because her brain isn't present, she is immune to most psychic or emotional manipulation or influence.
  • Phasing allows Kitty to "air-walk;" technically she can travel 9 km/min from east/west by riding on the air beneath her
  • She does not technically have to eat, drink water, or sleep while phased but her body will be mad at her if she doesn't do those things when she turns solid again. She does have to breathe, and if she is in a place with no access to air she must hold her breath or risk suffocation.
SKILLS
GENIUS INTELLECT Kitty has an unusually high IQ (not a mutation) and capacity for logic, learning, and solving problems. She graduated high school at 15, and if she wasn't an X-Man she'd certainly have at least one doctorate by now. She has a particular aptitude for electrical engineering, programming, and other technical and computer based abilities. Chess whiz also.
MARTIAL ARTS Black belt in taekwondo and expert fencer. This skillset allows her offensive skills with her defensive powers, and she can do really high kicks while phasing in and out.
MULTILINGUAL She can pick languages up extremely quickly, and knows Hebrew, Spanish, and German.
DANCE Ballet was the extra-curricular with which she relaxed when she was younger. She still is a skilled dancer, though it's mostly paired with martial arts these days to fortify and make her attacks more artful.
APPEARANCE
HAIR Brown EYES Brown HEIGHT 5'5"
Lithe build, clearly born to be a dancer and a fencer. Kitty has very curly brown hair which is often contained in a high ponytail, especially on missions. Her clothing style is eclectic and controversial, varying wildly with her whims and moods. She appreciates weird prints, bold patterns, and vintage styles. But she's also been through a goth phase, a dark academia phase, and sometimes just lives in the same overalls for a week straight. She's animated and warm in presentation; wide eyes and fast talking. The one thing consistent about her appearance is the silver Star of David necklace she never takes off.

PERSONALITY Everyone's nerdy little sister figure. She came into the X-Men late, wanted to prove herself as one of them, and has yet to try to stop proving. Overconfident, cocky, always just a little too reckless. She doesn't have to have a body, after all. Hyper-intelligent, with a brain that works quickly, Kitty has a strong undercurrent of anxiety at all times. This both leads her to a case of foot-in-mouth disorder (she says the wrong thing a whole lot) and renders her incapable of rest. She always needs to have five projects to the average person's one, and neglects food and sleep fairly easily, because again, she doesn't have to have a body if she doesn't want. It makes the necessities hard to remember sometimes.

She's loyal to the point of self-sacrifice. Kitty's friends are her life and she'd do anything for them. She's constantly in their businesses, to the point of nosiness and ignoring boundaries like closed doors that she never feels apply to her anyway. Kitty has a strong sense of morality, but a large dose of pragmatism too. She'll do what's right despite personal sacrifice, but when other people's needs are at stake, she's one to weigh out the cost and consequences evenly. She has a highly attuned sense of justice and will always intervene when she thinks someone is being manipulated or exploited. Practically incapable of lying, she's unflinchingly honest and straightforward, sometimes to her own detriment. The honesty at least does come with a warm, genuine demeanor. She's genuinely playful, and mostly optimistic. A bigger fan of experimentation than commitment, Kitty goes through a lot of phases when it comes to her wardrobe, interests, areas of study and romantic pursuits. Her love life's a dumpster fire because she goes all-in and then gets scared and runs away. The X-Men is the biggest commitment she's kept, at least.

HISTORY
FAMILY Carmen Pryde- Father, banker, lives in Chicago IL.
Theresa Ascher (formerly Pryde)- Mother, lives in Deerfield, IL

Born in the suburbs of Chicago to a banker and his wife, Kitty had an easy, very privileged childhood. She exhibited early signs of being gifted intellectually, and required a whole host of extra-curricular activities to keep her out of trouble. Kitty's family is Jewish and she grew up in that religion mostly culturally.

When Kitty was 14, she started to experience severe headaches and the strange phenomenon of falling through her bed into the basement, sometimes with the bed and sometimes through it, night after night. Charles Xavier found her quickly and asked her to join his school, but Kitty's parents didn't want her to go. She couldn't let a little thing like superpowers inhibit her acceptance at an Ivy. Kitty agreed, thinking her parents needed her. They were fighting a lot.

In a year, she discovered she could not handle any of this herself. Her powers were out of control, to the point that she couldn't keep solid in day-to-day life. Her parents divorced. Kitty graduated high school at 15, but moved her plans from applying to MIT to an online college program, and became a student at Xavier's Institute.
TIMELINE
2016 - AGE 14/15 Kitty's powers first emerge at age 14, and she is shortly after asked to join Charles Xavier. Bad timing; her parents were fighting every day and she is thriving in school. Kitty refuses,on grounds that she does not need this level of intervention. Stigma against mutants plays into this choice. If she could control it herself, and escape that label, why wouldn't she?
2017 - AGE 15/16 Kitty finds she can't control her powers herself, at all. Her home life is in tatters. The past few years brought to light that her father's being investigated for embezzling and her parents have multiple fights about it. They ultimately divorce against Kitty's best attempts. With her powers going haywire, she has to withdraw from school. She still graduates early, at the age of 15, but accepts Charles Xavier's second offer and becomes an X-Man.
2018 - AGE 16/17 Wildways takes place. Her first big mission! She was received well in Mojoworld as a newcomer/underdog story, and she's saved by Lockheed, a small alien who looks like a dragon. The two are inseparable from this point on.
2019 - AGE 17/18 Days of Future Past. A future version of herself possesses her body and warns her friends of impending doom if they don't stop the assassination of Senator Kelly, whose Twitter Kitty herself had recently hacked. Kitty has the opportunity to speak to the older version of herself while she's riding along, and she's impressed by the person who stays with the X-Men. Kitty resolves to do the same, and enrolls in online university classes rather than leaving the school.
2020 - AGE 18/19 God Loves, Man Kills: Kitty is and had been a proponent of going public, wanting to claim their identities as mutants from a place of pride, not shame. She advocates for this now and goes public, mostly to allow herself to be staunchly pro-mutant. Also, dates Bobby for mostly virtually after he moves away. They break up after 6 months, but stay friends.
2021/2022- AGE 19-21 With most of the original X-Men gone from the mansion, Kitty is left as a senior X-Men member. She makes it priority to welcome new students seeking shelter and guidance. When Kurt disappears and Scott is forced into leadership, Kitty takes on as much responsibility as she can. She helps rescue Kurt from a hell dimension by stretching her power beyond its current capabilities in order to cross dimensions and is left intangible for several days afterwards.
2023- AGE 21-22 X-Tinction Agenda: Kitty is the one to find a captive Manuel, and stays in Genosha to help rebuild. She also becomes a bartender, cuts off almost all her hair and goes goth in a cute way.
2024- AGE 22-23 Moves back from Genosha after about 9 months there, unwilling to let the X-Men languish for too long without her, and she's selfishly very glad to be around all of her friends again. Especially when Professor Xavier is found in a coma just before Christmas.
